What is Media Literacy and why is it important for you as FCM students to have it?

from Wikipedia, i found the meaning of media literacy. the definition is Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features -- such as media ownership, or its funding model^[1] -- affect the information presented.

media literacy make us to think more deeply about the information that we get and turn it into a message that make others people think more deeply about the message. and in study, it help a lot. it help us to understand the subject more and we will remember lasting because we see, we hear and we understand.

as a FCM students, media literacy is very important. its because, we need all the method to understand the massage that been delivered by media. to understand the massage, i will make research then i will analyze it. to make me more understand on that subject, i will start thinking then from there if i still don't understand, i will meet the lecturer. if most student apply the method, i do believe that successful in studies is in our hand. i might also said that when i do my research, sometimes it help me to get the idea for my others subject. to me, media give big impact in my life. its help me a lot. media give the important role for me to understand the message that the artist try to delivered through artwork.



personal refection:


the topic in class make the students paid attention on it. because of that, student more listen rather than talking. i can be more focus when the surrounding is quite. the topic for this week make me want to understand it more deeply by doing research. from there, i understand it more better and apply it on my studies life..

stereotype meaning give certain characteristic to some group..it used to explain real or imaginary differences due to race, gender, religion and etc..stereotype can be occasionally positive or negative..when some people already put stereotype on one subject matter, its hard for others to change it...and who ever have the same characteristic will get the name or others give the same thought about them even they might be different with the stereotype..most of stereotype was a sarcastic jokes. that might insult or offence the person.

example is peter pan..the stereotype is sent smoke signals, lived in teepees, wore feathered headdresses, scalped their foes...this is the example of stereotype image of Native Americans.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it? If yes, why? If no, why?

critical reflection 1st:

No, because now days people can create anything in Internet. It might true but might also false. If u are web designer, u know well how to create the story and how to make it real. To me, even the side told that this is the official web side, i never believe it because from what i said just now.

critical reflection 2ND:

Again my answer is no. For example, in Malaysia, most artist got their own blog and told everything to their fan, but happen if someone create the same thing and claim that the blog is real and post bad thing?, can anyone came and say it that is not real with a prove?, get what i mean?. so what i try to tell is in internet you can be anyone and do anything, that because i never believe in internet.

in class, i can understand but again hope can make it more interested with example of video or picture.

example of social media is Internet, news paper, television n film..those medium is used to deliver information...even thing happen without we see it but we still can know the news even watch what happen...however i do think it also give bad influence, for example, some news are private and maybe can create controversy if people know..the usage of social media give good and bad influences in our daily life..

social media create situation that no need to meet each other just to talk or chat...that something really useful..we don't have much trouble such as to arrange place and time or maybe the traffic jam on the road just to have a small conversation with our friend..social media help a lot in that...even thought it give us much more comfortable in contact our friend or whoever but its also create a situation that we will have less face to face conversation...social media give us to talk even not meeting the person..

i do understand what the lecturer saying and the info that the lecturer deliver..and i also understand the purpose of learning media culture..but i hope there will be more medium of media to deliver information and not just reading the text...
